Smart Meter Transformation

Smart meter transformation isn't simply replacing old mechanical meters with electronic ones; it's a systematic upgrade integrating data collection, remote communication, automatic control, and intelligent management. It addresses four major pain points in traditional electricity management: difficulty in meter reading, difficulty in billing, difficulty in power control, and unclear energy consumption. It enables electricity users like industrial parks, apartments, and factories to transition from "manual extensive management" to "digital precision operations."

1. Why Change? Traditional Electricity Management is Too "Passive"

Many units still use the old methods:

Monthly meter reading by electricians is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to errors. Bills are collected through demanding action, resulting in significant tenant arrears and high bad debt rates. Illegal electricity use can only be addressed after the fact, creating significant safety risks. It's impossible to identify which buildings or rooms are consuming the most electricity, making it difficult to identify energy conservation initiatives. These problems cannot be solved simply by "strengthening management" but rather require technological solutions to restructure management logic.

II. What should be upgraded? Three core elements are essential.

A true smart meter upgrade involves three aspects:

1. Hardware upgrade: Replace old mechanical or standard electronic meters with smart meters that "talk." Install smart meters that support remote communication (supporting RS485, 4G, NB, LoRaWAN, etc.). Choose single-phase or three-phase meters, and whether or not they have remote on/off functionality, depending on the scenario.

2. Communication networking: Build a data "highway" by laying out communication lines (such as RS485 buses) or deploying wireless gateways (4G). Ensure that each meter can reliably upload data to the management platform. Network design should consider interference mitigation, coverage, and future expansion.

3. Platform deployment: Install the "brain" to enable intelligent management. Deploy an energy management platform (local server or cloud platform) to enable remote meter reading, online bill payment, automatic power off, energy consumption analysis, and other functions. It can be integrated with door locks, finance, property management, and other systems to form a closed management loop. Simply replacing the meter without connecting to the network is like "installing a new meter for nothing." Connecting to the network without a platform means the data is unusable. 3. What functions can be achieved after the renovation?

Automatic meter reading: Data is automatically collected at a scheduled time daily, eliminating the need for on-site visits.

Prepaid bill management: Top up before using electricity, and power is automatically disconnected if arrears occur, completely eliminating the problem of overdue bills.

Remote on/off: The property management can remotely control the power supply, with a single click to shut off the power for check-out, maintenance, and emergencies.

Abnormal alarms: Risks such as overload, leakage, cover opening, and offline meters are reported in real time.

Energy consumption analysis: Generate reports to clearly view electricity usage in each area and identify energy savings opportunities.

WeChat payment: Tenants can self-pay through the mini-program, improving the service experience.

These features transform management from "reactive response" to "proactive control."
