Legal Basis for the Service Life of Gas Appliances
I. Gas Meters and Gas Appliances
1. Article 7.3.1 of GB17905-2008 "Safety Management Rules for Household Gas Burning Appliances" stipulates that, from the date of sale, the service life of quick water heaters and heating boilers using liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas should be 8 years; the service life of gas stoves should also be 8 years.

2. Article 7.3.2 of GB17905-2008 "Safety Management Rules for Household Gas Burning Appliances" stipulates that gas water heaters and other gas appliances should be scrapped even if they have not reached their service life if any of the following faults occur after repair:
1) The combustion condition seriously deteriorates, and the carbon monoxide content in the flue gas still does not meet the relevant standards after repair;
2) The combustion chamber and heat exchanger are severely damaged or the flame overflows;
3) Water leakage, gas leakage, or insulation breakdown and leakage of electricity still occur after repair.
Hazards of using beyond the service life:
Due to the long service life of gas appliances, some internal components age, resulting in unstable performance, high gas consumption, and incomplete combustion, posing safety hazards such as gas leaks and deflagration.
II. Gas Connection Hoses
Article 6.1.7 of GB55009-2021 "Code for Gas Engineering Projects" stipulates that when household user pipelines are connected to gas appliances with hoses, special gas appliance connection hoses should be used. The service life of the hose should not be less than the service life of the gas appliance.

Hazards of using beyond the service life:
Using aged and expired rubber hoses can easily cause safety hazards such as gas leaks. Corrosion-resistant, rodent-resistant, and high-safety metal corrugated pipes should be used. If your home still uses rubber hoses, please contact the gas company immediately to replace them with gas-specific metal corrugated pipes.
III. Gas Safety Devices
CECS 364-2014 "Technical Guidelines for the Safe Application of Building Gas" stipulates that the design service life of combustible gas sensors or detectors (alarms) is generally 3-5 years, and the service life of safety shut-off valves (emergency shut-off valves, self-closing valves) should not be less than 10 years.

Hazards of exceeding the service life:
Gas alarms, shut-off valves, or self-closing valves that have exceeded their service life for too long may experience malfunctions, inaccuracies, or reduced sensitivity due to aging, affecting their effectiveness. Therefore, they must be replaced promptly.
